All certification exams are carried out online. With the multiple choice portions being completed using an online platform and the tea preparation, oral presentation and blind cupping being carried out live with an examiner on Skype.
To use and maintain all of these certifications, the Code of Conduct must be signed and membership to the Tea & Herbal Association of Canada must be paid every year. For certifications that include an exam, the first year of membership at the corresponding level of membership is granted on a complimentary basis upon passing the final exam.
Tea Sommelier® Certification Exam
The exam is composed of the following:
- Tea Preparation (30%)
- Oral Presentation (10%)
- Multiple Choice Questions (30%)
- Blind Tasting (30%)
COST $250 (plus shipping & HST)
Students must pass the blind cupping with a minimum of 75% AND an overall score of 75% to pass. If a student fails only one portion, they need to only re- take the failed portion.
THAC offers an Exam Prep webinar several weeks before every exam. This session is optional. Please check our schedule to see when one is offered.
THAC shall issue any student who completes the Tea Sommelier® certification a hard copy certificate.
Tea Specialist
The exam is composed of the following:
- Oral Presentation (50%)
- Multiple Choice Questions (50%)
COST $175 (plus shipping & HST)
THAC shall issue any student who completes the Tea Specialist certification a digital certificate of completion.
Foodservice Tea Specialist
The exam is composed of the following:
- Oral Presentation (100%)
COST $150 (plus shipping & HST)
THAC shall issue any student who completes the Foodservice Tea Specialist certification a digital certificate of completion.
Herbs & Infusions Certificate
No exam. Upon passing all 3 courses a student will be issued a digital certificate.
